on a lighter note…

I don’t believe in magic, but make an exception for the Four Tops doing “Walk Away Renee.”

Southside Johnny has been performing a version that’s a cousin to the Tops’ for 20 years now, and last night at their annual New Year’s Eve show the band did the finest ‘Walk’ I’ve heard. It fits perfectly with the other wounded romance songs from the Jukes’  first three albums. (Last night also gave us fine versions of “Love On The Wrong Side Of Town” and “Without Love.”)

Southside is maturing into a great old soul man (did you hear his cover album of Tom Waits songs a few years back?) and the only thing I want different is for him to dress the part. It’s time to get out the suits and look sharp.

Anyway, I can’t find last night’s show on line yet, but I’m sure it’ll get there.
