If I die in an accident, I want it to be here, at the intersection of jazz and hard boiled mystery.
Seriously, Ethan Iverson (piano player of The Bad Plus) has an increasingly valuable second career as writer and thinker. Do The Math is his blog (it was the entire group’s in its first incarnation).
The subject of the entry linked, Lawrence Block, is a long haul writer. I have read every one of his Matthew Scudder books, most of them many times. Block isn’t perfect, (though 8 Million Ways To Die is a great book) but he’s very, very fine, his sins are minor, the pleasures of his writing many – and Iverson and Block together are their own kind of good read.
